Key Points

  • Shiba Inu is up by over 10,000,000% in the last 12-months
  • A confluence of factors including a massive coin burn is behind the rally
  • From a look at history, a SHIB crash is imminent

For most people, the stock market is one of the surest ways to build wealth. Quite understandable considering that for the most part, the stock markets are always in an uptrend.

Good examples of the stock market’s ability to build wealth are evident in the S&P 500 and the FTSE 100. Since the 1929 stock markets crash, the S&P 500 has been going up, save for a few dips decades apart. Similarly, the FTSE 100 has been on an uptrend since it was launched, except for 2008, and a few other times.

However, like every other aspect of life, the financial markets are constantly evolving. For instance, over the last decade, cryptocurrencies have created wealth in unprecedented proportions. For example, Bitcoin went from less than $1 when it launched to its most recent highs of $68k.

But even within crypto, there are some coins and tokens that have pulled off what would easily pass for a financial miracle. For instance, Shiba Inu (SHIB) launched in August 2020, and as of April last year had recorded gains of over 500,000%. These returns dwarf anything the stock markets have ever recorded since they became a thing.

Here’s How Much $100 Invested In Shiba Inu 12 Months Ago Is Worth Now

12-months ago, Shiba Inu was trading at $0.000000000168. At the time of going to press, Shiba Inu was trading at $0.00002092. This is a more than 12,450,000% increase in value. Comparatively, both the S&P 500 and the FTSE 100 are up by less than 50% in the same period.

To help you better understand how massive Shiba Inu’s gains have been in the last 12-months, $100 invested in SHIB at the time is worth about $1 billion today.

Someone who bought $100 worth of SHIB 12-months ago now has enough money to buy 5000 Lambos at $200k each and still have cash left to have fun or make other investments.

Sounds crazy, right? Let’s take a look at how it became possible to turn just $100 into a billion profit that puts you among the world’s richest people.

Here Is Why Shiba Inu Went Parabolic

Shiba Inu had perfect timing when it first hit the market. At the time, investors were going crazy over Dogecoin, the crypto that Elon Musk was pumping for the better part of 2020.

To ride this wave, the geniuses behind Shiba Inu launched a meme coin that had a dog theme, just like Dogecoin. This was an instant success as investors jumped on to it while chasing the next Dogecoin.

By the start of 2021, the meme coin craze was hitting a fever pitch, and by this time, Shiba Inu had already built a sizeable community. This further fueled its rally and saw it hit unprecedented valuations by March 2021.

However, in May, SHIB dipped due to the correction in the broader market, and a $1 billion SHIB donation by Vitalik Buterin to India.  Nonetheless, the community kept growing, and SHIB kept improving on its functionality.

For instance, in July the project launched Shibaswap, a decentralized exchange. The price of SHIB started stabilizing after this launch because it helped unlock liquidity for the project.

This DEX also opened up SHIB to staking. Investors looking for passive income started flocking into SHIB, and the price started to stabilize. That’s because with more SHIB locked up, the huge price moves that characterized this crypto earlier were gone.

All these developments were happening while the total supply was shrinking drastically. That’s because Shiba Inu is deflationary by design. All Shib generated as transaction fees are burned.

At the same time, Vitalik Buterin burned most of the 50% SHIB allocated to him, and donated the rest to India. The result is that the supply of SHIB has shrunk over time from 1 quadrillion tokens to about 350 trillion tokens.

This is one of the factors that have contributed to Shiba Inu’s price rally in October-November 2021. On top of that, Shiba Inu benefits from having a highly optimistic community.

SHIB rallied by over 1000% in October 2021, driven by the growing calls to have Robinhood exchange list it. More than 500k people have signed the petition, and the anticipation has led investors to FOMO into SHIB.

The fact that Elon Musk has been mentioning it has helped too. Being one of the most influential figures in crypto, investors are expectant that the Tesla CEO’s tweets could trigger another rally, and lead to the kinds of gains that SHIB recorded since its launch.

SHIB Could Face A Huge Correction In 2022

While it is easy to FOMO into SHIB in anticipation of million-dollar returns, it may not be wise to put all life savings in this crypto.

That’s because the kind of gains it has given over the last 12-months is not sustainable. In the past, some cryptos have given similar profits only to lose out big time shortly after.

XRP, for instance, lost more than 96% of its value in 2018/19 after a parabolic move in 2017. Similarly, Litecoin lost 93% of its value in a year after an equally unimaginable rally in 2017. Bitcoin, too has been through massive booms and crashes since it launched. Essentially, massive rallies are almost always followed by epic crashes.

Besides, there is a lot more to worry about SHIB than just crypto boom and crash cycles. For instance, Shib staking was supposed to help stabilize the price, but it has not had such a noticeable effect. That’s because most people don’t stake Shib for more than 10-days.

That’s an indicator that very few people actually believe in this project enough to stake it for long. It’s all about the short-term gains.

You also need to consider that SHIB has pretty much no real-world uses. So far, only some largely unknown businesses accept SHIB for payments. This shows that it’s a high-risk speculative asset and could experience a massive correction in 2022.
